Sidney Crosby's Biography
Sid the kid
Tina and Troy Crosby got their son Sidney on August 7 1987, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Troy got drafted to the NHL as a goalie back in 1984. But unable to stay in the NHL Troy got involved Halifax law firm where he started working as a facilities manager. Tina worked at a grocery store at Cole Harbor. And it was in Cole Harbor Sidney grew up in his early years as a child.

Already at the age of two (!) Sidney showed interest in the sport of hockey. With a little stick he started shooting at the dryer in the basement, this eventually lead to his first pair of skates at the age of three.
A couple of year's later Sidney was already competing with other boys at the local arena Cole Harbor Palace. Even before his teens Sidney had become a national sensation who was handling the press superb even though he was just a child.
Still it wasn't all easy going for Sidney's parents to let their son play hockey at all these different teams. Tina had to work extra just to get enough money for the equipment for Sidney.

Sidney Crosby getting recognition
Playing in all these different teams Sidney got to know one of his best childhood friends Jackson Johnson, a great talented two way player who Sidney practiced a lot with. They were both pushing each other to the maximum, which was positive for both, as they got older.
At 14 years old Sidney was competing against 17year-olds, and it wasn't like he was having hard time playing with the older boys. Sidney scored 44 goals in just 31 games in the Triple-A Midget league in 2001-02. He had become a big star in Canada already and comparisons to Wayne Gretzky had already begun.

After this great season Sidney tried to enter the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) but because he was just 15 and the league did not allow 15 years old to play in QMJHL he didn't not get in. This also happen to Mario Lemieux in the early 80's same situation and Mario could not enter the QMHL as a 15 year old.
